dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this research is to find the types of politeness maxim and the meaning of politeness maxim based on its context in the movie Turning Red. Data collection techniques in this research are watching the movie, downloading the script, transcribing and underlining utterances that contain politeness maxims. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data is analyzed by classifying into six maxims from Leech's (1983) politeness principle theory. The data source in this research is the script of Turning Red movie. The result of this study shows that there are 63 utterances containing the maxims of politeness according to the context of the six maxims, namely the tact maxim (14 utterances), the approbation maxim (8 utterances), the genorosity maxim (12 utterances), the modesty maxim (5 utterances), the agreement maxim (11 utterances), and the sympathy maxim (13 utterances). The tact maxim is the most dominant, because the characters are very careful in speaking and always make decisions in a wise way so that they and their interlocutors can accept the meaning of the expression and avoid misunderstanding each other. | en_US |
