    Abstract
This thesis is entitled An Analysis of Modality in ‘Think and Grow Rich’ Book by Napoleon Hill To find out the types and value of modality, the most dominant types, and to describe how are the modality realized in “Think and Grow Rich” Book by Napoleon Hill. The writer uses the theory of Systemic Functional Linguistics by M.A.K Halliday, which focuses on Interpersonal function, namely Modality. This study uses a mixed method with data collected from motivational books. According to the problem raised in this study, it is stated that the four types of modalities are contained in every clause or sentence in the book. Through modality analysis the reader can understand the meaning of each sentence conveyed. Therefore, the results found: 1.) Modalization is 419 data with a percentage of 86.39%. (probability with a total data of 298 or about of 61.44% and usuality with a total of 121 or about 24.94%.). 2.) Modulation is 66 data with a percentage of 13.60% (obligation with a total data of 54 or about of 11.13% and inclination with a total data 12 or about 2.47%). It was concluded from these findings, because the analyzed book contains a meaning in which the author of the book expresses the views on success, so that there are motivational sentences, suggestions, and also what possibilities can be taken to become successful, making probability in modalization as the dominant type.
